Every day we hear powerful stories from our clients, but some of them we just can’t forget.  We met Connie and Lucky a few months ago and we wanted to share their incredible story with you:

Several years ago, Connie was injured in a car accident that resulted in irreversible brain damage as well as the loss of the lower right arm.  Her recovery was slow and she struggled to adjust to a new way of life.  She looked for the positive but times were difficult.

Lucky came to Connie through a friend who had to give him up unexpectedly.  The pair bonded immediately and Lucky became a bright spot in Connie’s world.

Lucky is a natural caretaker.  He even went through service dog training to alert Connie when she is about to have a seizure.  He knows when Connie is distressed and will lick her hand or offer a paw when she is down.  He cozies up to her when she is sick and makes her feel safe and guarded at night.

Lucky has helped Connie stay positive during her recovery.  She feels more confident when he is around.  She calls Lucky her “good luck charm”.  As you can see, Lucky loves Connie so much.

Over time, Connie began to worry.  She couldn’t afford to take Lucky to the vet and she knew he must need his shots. “He took care of me when I was hurt, I want to be able to take care of him too.”  What if something happened to Lucky?  Who could she turn to?

This is where our mobile clinic becomes one of our most powerful tools for reaching pets in need.  The mobile clinic visits neighborhoods to offer low-cost, high quality wellness services.  Pets can get rabies vaccines, heartworm/flea/tick preventative, and more right in their own backyard.  Each time we visit a neighborhood, more pets are happier and healthier.

We believe that everyone should have access to affordable, high-quality spay/neuter and preventative care.  But we need your help to make it happen.  Please consider a gift to help us provide wellness care and spay/neuter to local pets that need help the most.

You’ll know that because of your generosity a neighbor in need, like Connie, will be able to keep her lucky charm right by her side.
