August is “National Admit You’re Happy” Month so we thought we’d get the ball rolling with a list of some of the ways our pets make us happy.
Our pets are perfect companions. Dogs, in particular, are especially adept at not only understanding some of the words we say but also interpreting our moods (and adapting to them) through our vocal tones and body language. And that makes us happy.
Pets are awesome stress relievers. Of course nothing warms the heart more than being greeted by a loving bark and purr after a long day at work or school. But interaction with pets can actually your lower blood pressure and increase levels of dopamine, which is a calming and relaxing agent.
Pets make us happy both inside and out. Studies show that spending time with your pet boosts your “happy” hormones like serotonin.
Owning a pet can help you shed those last few stubborn pounds, and that makes us very happy. Pets encourage daily walking, and playing with your pet can be a great form of exercise.
Your pet can make you popular. People with pets are more likely to meet and interact with new people — whether it’s at a dog park or on a walk, at a pet shop or with other pet owners.
