Announcing our Mobile Wellness Clinic

Mobile Wellness RV

Pet Community Center is thrilled to announce the launch of our Mobile Wellness Clinic! Thanks to generous donors, we have converted a 30-foot RV into a mobile veterinary clinic to serve pets in the Nashville area. The goal is to help pets stay in loving homes and prevent them from being relinquished to a shelter by providing low-cost care.

Why did we create the Mobile Wellness Program?

Part of our mission is to end pet overpopulation, which leads to shelter relinquishment and euthanasia. We have been closely monitoring data at Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) to determine why animals are entering the shelter and from which neighborhoods they are coming.   According to MACC data, one of the primary reasons for pet relinquishment is inability to afford basic veterinary care. We have recognized this as an unmet need that was contributing to shelter overpopulation and euthanasia.

The Mobile Wellness program is modeled after the Pets for Life program developed by The Humane Society of the United States. This model utilizes neighborhood vaccination events to build relationships with pet owners in areas where there are a high number of animals entering the shelter. The goal is to make it possible for pet owners to provide care and keep pets in the home. It also can lead to higher spay/neuter rates. The program benefits the community by increasing the standard of care for pets living in poverty.

We have identified several neighborhoods that have high rates of animals going into the shelter. We noticed in these areas that pet owners often have limited access to transportation and there are essentially veterinary care “deserts” (similar to food deserts). That is why a mobile approach seemed to be a good fit. We plan to regularly visit these areas and reach pets that might not otherwise receive care.

How will it work?

The Mobile Wellness Clinic will be on the road two days per week, and our schedule will be posted and kept up-to-date on our website. You do not have to qualify to use the clinic, and you do not need an appointment to bring your pet to a wellness clinic. It is a walk up clinic and will operate on a first come first served basis.  The clinics are low-cost and we accept cash or debit/credit.

Services Offered:

We will offer basic vaccinations, microchips and flea, tick and heartworm preventives as well as heartworm tests. To see a full list of services and prices please visit the official page of the Mobile Wellness Program.
